3rd XI v Old Hambledonians

E-mail Print PDF

Locks Heath 190 for 3 Old Hambledonians 189 for 4 Locks Heath won by 7 wickets

On an awful June day locks Heath took on Old Hambledonians at the Green. Locks Heath lost the toss and where asked to bowl first.  Today was a strange day with good bowling and fielding from the Locks Heath side but with chances not coming we had to work hard in the field for each other today.  With a couple off half chances not going to hand and one drop, Old Hambledonians had the chance to mount a big score on a batting wicket, but with Tim Lutchford making a late break through with a little help from a Mark Jones catch, things started to go our way.

Then with Anthony Lovell bowling well for two wickets with help from Chris Lutchford and Mark Jones, and with Ed Williamson bowling at the death to pick up a much deserved wicket in the last over of there innings, Locks Heath kept the visitors down to 189. A lot of this was down to Pete Levy and Chris Boyd bowling 18 over's 6 maidens for 46 runs.

Locks Heath made a flying start in the run chase with Chris Lutchford and Matt Bayliss at the crease, but with the ball flying to all parts off the ground it was not long before a chance was given and snapped up with a cracking caught and bowled. The Heath where one down for 19 off 3 over's with Matt Bayliss departing for 9 it was up to Hugh Walker and Chris Lutchford, and with these two at the crease the Locks Heath pair went about there work in fine fashion with some fine free flowing shots the score was racing to the target. soon both players went past the 50 mark with Chris Lutchford getting his first 50 for the club!!  Chris was out for 66 with the second wicket partnership at 115.

Ed Williamson joined Hugh at the crease he and they set about seeing Locks Heath home, unfortunly Hugh was out for 62, allowing the thirds in form batsmen Danny Willamson to join his son Ed.  the father and son paring went about there work to see Locks Heath to victory with 7 wickets in hand and 12.3 over's to spare, their partnership an unbeaten 41 with Ed on 11 not out and Danny on 32 not out.

Ed and Danny Williamson see the Heath home.

So well done lads this was a great team victory with everyone putting in for the team cause, there where a few big individual efforts today with Chris Lutchford 66 Hugh Walker 62 Anthony Lovell 2 for 46.

The thirds team record now stands at played 6 won 4

3rd XI v Bedhampton

E-mail Print PDF
Locks Heath 3 102 All Out Bedhampton 3 160 All Out Locks Heath lost by 59 runs

On the 12th June Locks Heath travelled to Holybank to take on Bedhampton 3, which is where the trouble started with one of the Locks Heath players getting lost on the way and not being able to find the ground!

Locks Heath took the field with only 10 players and Danny Williamson as stand in captain with normal third team captain Mark Jones playing for the frist team.

With selection problems all week which at one point looked like the third team forfeiting this fixture because we could not field a team, we made a great start with James Yeomans taking a wicket in his first over. The pick off the Locks Heath bowlers today was Danny Williamsons taking 3 for 14 from 5.3 overs and Mark Burgess taking 3 for 53 from 10,  there were also wickets for Pete Levy 2 for 19.  Another great feilding display from the third team with only 10 players and to bowl the side out is great credit this young side.

With the target set, Locks Heath went about chasing this score down, and from the start we were always on wicket down, but with a young Jake Hesketh making his first start for the third team he went about in a fine fashion gettting 24 before getting out, with only 2 other batsmen getting in to double figues (Pete Levy and Julian Read both getting 12 each) it was always going to be difficult chasing 160.

I also would like to thank Mark Burgess and Ed Oliver who on Friday night said they would play at the last minute and a big well done to Jake Hesketh on his senier debut.

So after five games played we have won 3 and lost 2.

3rd XI v Hayling Island

E-mail Print PDF
Locks Heath 339 for 9  Hayling Island 148 All Out

On a hot summers day Locks Heath took on Hayling Island at the Green, after losing the toss and being asked to bat first the Locks Heath openers put us in the driving seat a quick fire 66 of 8 overs with Matt Bayliss getting 29 before getting out. Then with 10 overs gone we where 2 down for 80, with Chris Lutchford going for 42. Things started to turn against locks Heath with two more batsmen getting out in as many balls and the normal Locks Heath batting collapse look to be coming!! With 13 overs down the score at 109 for 4, Danny Williamson at the crease by far this seasons best batsmen set about steadying the ship, which he did with the help of Julian Read 18. With the help off Pete Levy the Locks Heath score shot past the 200 mark before the tail was exposed with Mark Jones and James Yeomans both getting out with out without scoring.

With the score on 230 for 9 with 10 overs to go Danny Williamson and Matt Payne at the crease, some thing very special happened which had to be seen to believed. An unbeaten 10th wicket stand of 109 runs with Danny Williamson getting 135 not out and a young Matt Payne getting 33 not out, Matt Payne hitting some cracking sixes to all parts of the ground!!

So with a massive lead of 339 runs the Locks Heath bowlers went about their hard work to try to get the Hayling Island side out.  Great bowling from Pete Levy 2 for 17, Ed Williamson 2 for 11 and Matt Payne 2 for 19 and also Chris and Tim Lutchford and Adrian and James Yeoman all picking up 1 wicket each. The Locks Heath Bowlers got all 10 wickets with only 4 balls left in the game, this was a great bit of work because the Hayling Island side did try to shut up shop.

So with a great win under our belts and a couple off club records in the bag, and with 3 outstanding performances from Danny Williamson 135* and Matt Payne with both bat and ball and Ed Willamson with the ball.

1st XI vs Ryde 1st XI

E-mail Print PDF

Locks Heath 299-7 beat Ryde CC 197 by 102 runs.

Locks Heath's next game was at home to a slightly weakened Ryde team but a team who had beaten us the previous season.

Despite a damp wicket Locks Heath won the toss and elected to bat first.  Our openers Jack Paskins and Alex Adams got us off to a quick start going at over 5 runs an over.  Despite losing Jack for a quickfire 26 we continued to push on with Alex Richardson joining Alex Adams.  Alex A and Alex R put on over 100 for the 2nd wicket with some good batting, punishing anything loose but also rotating the strike well.  Alex Adams eventually fell for a well made 68.  Alex Richardson continued to score well passing his 50 however with around 15 overs to go he fell for 52.  This brought Jon Richardson and Jamie Hill together who after taking a few overs to get themselves in proceeded to take the attack to the Ryde bowlers, especially Jamie who put their opening bowler into the clubhouse on a couple of occasions.  They put on a quick 87 with Jamie scoring 49 and Jon 47.  The innings was perfectly set up for Jack Levy and Matt Light to really attack the final overs.  Locks Heath eventually finishing on 299-7.

In reply Ryde were always struggling after some probing bowling from Jack Paskins and Jamie Hill took early wickets.  However their middle order showed heart and were able to keep up with the rate however Locks Heath continued to consistently pick up wickets eventually bowling Ryde out for 197 off 42 overs, just in time to catch the England football game! The pick of the bowlers being Dave Lemon with 3-46, Alex Richardson 2-15 and Jamie Hill 2-30.  It was another good performance especially considering we were missing a couple of key players and takes us up to 2nd in the league.  We have a week off next weekend but will go into the next game against Fawley full of confidence.

Team: Jon Richardson, Alex Adams, Jack Paskins, Alex Richardson, Louis Reen, Jamie Hill, Jack Levy, Matt Light, Dave Lemon, Sam Read, Mark Jones

1st XI vs Purbrook 1st XI

E-mail Print PDF
Locks Heath 264-6 beat Purbrook CC 260-8 by 4 Wickets

After another washout the previous weekend against Waterlooville our next game was away to Purbrook.  On a very hot afternoon Locks Heath lost the toss and bowled first.  Some poor fielding and loose bowling in the first couple of over meant that Purbrook set off at a quick rate.  However Purbrook were pegged back by the loss of their opener and some tighter bowling from the opening bowlers Jack Paskins and Jack Levy and first change bowlers Peter Bleeck and Dave Lemon.  The Purbrook batsman however continued to press on with their overseas player starting to look set and play some expansive shots, but a run out from Dave Lemon as Purbrook’s dangerman was starting to put his foot down put Locks Heath right back into the game.  The innings was evenly poised with 10 overs to go but the Purbrook’s lower order took the attack to our bowling eventually finishing on 260/8.  The pick of the bowlers being Alex Richardson and Dave Lemon with 2 wickets a piece and Peter Bleeck who picked up 1 wicket and kept it very tight in the middle overs.

This was always going to be a tough ask to chase down and wasn’t helped by the fact that we were 30/2 losing both Jack Paskins and Alex Adams early.  However a terrific partnership by Alex Richardson (103) and Louis Reen (50) set the chase up brilliantly.  It was a superbly built partnership and really showed everyone how to build and pace an innings.  This left Locks Heath needing about 60 runs at 8 an over with wickets in hand, and the cool heads of Scott Jones (29*) and Peter Bleeck saw us home with 3 balls to spare.  It was a very pleasing victory against a decent team and proved that we can chase a big total when the pressure is on.  Special mention to Alex who hit our first century of the season in very difficult conditions and to Louis Reen who posted his first 50 on English soil.  We will look to continue this form going into the next game at home to Ryde.

Team: Jon Richardson, Alex Adams, Jack Paskins, Alex Richardson, Louis Reen, Scott Jones, Jack Wills, James Griffiths, Peter Bleeck, Jack Levy, Dave Lemon.
