ExxonMobil has continued its support for Locks Heath Cricket Club in 2009 with a further £1,000 grant, issued as part of its Volunteer Involvement Programme (VIP).
The award is support for a contribution made to local youth sport orchestrated by Bob Hughes, who works for ExxonMobil at Fawley and whose sons, James, 16, and Will, 10, play for LHCC in the men’s and U11/U13 sides respectively.
Bob, who managed the U11 team in 2009, successfully applied for a grant from the company’s VIP in summer. The Programme recognises the contributions of time and energy made to local community groups and is open to ExxonMobil employees and their families. James, an ECB level 1 coach, works with younger players. LHCC will use the funding for repairs to the nets at the Warsash Road grounds and towards a replacement artificial batting strip.
“Next season I will be managing the U13 side,” said Bob, “and look forward to seeing how they progress at the next level, when the game changes. They are a talented and committed group of youngsters – plus I receive excellent parental support with scoring and umpiring.”
LHCC has SE Hants district players in every age group and its club structure provides opportunities for talented players to play up in older age groups whilst U15s are frequently selected for three men’s sides: 1st XI, 2nd XI and the Cavaliers. Members across all age groups also participate in winter indoor leagues.
Colts’ coordinator Mark Griffiths added: “We are tremendously grateful for this further funding and the hard work put in by Bob and James in running the U11 side and encouraging the young players who will be our next generation.”
- Youngsters who wish to play for the Club or learn out more about its winter training programme should attend the REGISTRATION NIGHT at the Warsash Road clubhouse on Friday, January 8. Colts’ managers will be on hand to discuss the programme and welcome potential new recruits. New for 2010 is a girls’ side, to be run by Mark Griffiths. Indoor training will commence at Brookfield School on Saturday January 16.
